Things I've Learned From Stargate

As we're approaching the final episode of Stargate SG-1 I'm getting somewhat frustrated. I thought the purpose of the last 10 episodes was to finish up the storylines... Not create new ones or head off on side adventures that don't seem to have much to do with finishing off the Ori.
Granted I've enjoyed all of the side stories presented so far, but I'm wondering how much they're going to detract from a completed storyline. For example, this last week we were introduced to Vala Mal Doran's father & taken on an interesting escapade to clean up the remnants of a dead Goa'uld's plans to destroy earth. Unless the Naqahdah that they retrieved plays some major part in helping them destroy the Ori, I'm not sure what the point was.
Anyways, on to my list of things I've learned in no particular order -
- Everybody makes mistakes, even the world's foremost experts.
- No matter how bad the mistake was, you can always fix or jury-rig it - even so, things won't go back to the way they were before the mistake.
- Your mistakes have consequences & you may or may not be affected directly (farewell Dr. Beckett).
- Doesn't matter how intelligent you are, there's always somebody more intelligent out there.
- Even intelligent beings can learn from the less advanced/intelligent.
- No matter how formidable the odds may seem it's a piece of cake & you've not seen the really tough stuff yet.
- If you don't know what something does, don't turn it on unless you're willing to face the consequences.
- The only way you'll ever know what something really does is to turn it on.
- Just because the technology is available, doesn't make it the best tool for the job (i.e. the staff weapon vs the FN P90).
- A good reminder that a more technologically advanced society can appear as gods to a lesser advanced society.
- The vast majority of the universe has discovered the fact that the English language is the lowest common denominator & integrated it into society centuries ago in preparation for being invaded by Earth once those stupid earthlings grew up ;)
