People keep asking me about Chicago and if it was any good. It was good & I’ve been working on a blog post, but I’ve not had time to finish it… So for now I’ll just post a link to Terry Chay’s closing keynote speech.

Local Fire Makes National News

Monday, February 19th, 2007

The sky on Friday just looked bad - lots of smoke to the south & east. Apparently there was a fire in the Waldo area & that caused me to think of a friend of mine who used to work at the fire station just down the street from the major intersection at 75th & Wornall Rd.

Later our internet connection seemed to come & go. Saturday seemed to be the worste as everything died. So I attempted to call Everest only to find a dead phone… Turning on the TV also resulted in - nothing! I grabbed my mobile & called Everest only to discover that everybody on the Missouri side of the Kansas City area had lost all service… Apparently a major trunk runs through the cleanup area for the Waldo fire.

Oh well, my loss is minor compared to the loss to the businesses involved in the fire. Not to mention the wedding dresses that were destroyed. I also hope that the firemen injured get well soon.

The building was built in 1923 as the Westmoreland Theater, featuring burlesque, vaudeville, and silent films - it became the Waldo Movie Theater. In 1973 it became the Waldo Astoria Dinner Playhouse & in 1991 became the home to several small businesses.

The shops destroyed where Café Apanaire (a french bakery), Kennedy’s Bar & Grill, & the Gown Gallery. I haven’t heard what happened to Frankly Basic yet, but I’m guessing if it wasn’t destroyed it suffered alot of smoke damage.

Sorry for Lack of Posts

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

I was having session issues & I’m not sure why… I do know I updated Apache, PHP, & MySQL… That seems to have caused the initial problems. It only caused a problem with all of my Drupal sites, but in no way affected other applications as far as I can tell.

I updated Drupal, read through their forum posts that I could find on the problem, and applied the various hacks & still no immediate success.

Several months later & sessions now seem to work just fine. Not sure what I did other than update certain things again at various times…

Now all I need to do is find all the logs I made & placed in text files…

This one time, at band camp…

I can’t believe it… somebody actually asked me to explain this quote. I’ve never even seen the movie & I know what movie it’s in & who said it! Well, I didn’t know the complete quote which you can find at IMDB - Memorable Quotes from American Pie. Who said it? An actress I remember from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Willow - Alyson Hannigan.

Essential Drupal Tips for Drupal 4.6.5

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

I’ve been messing around with the idea of setting up Drupal for multiple sites & so was looking for a way to set up a separate attachments directory for each site’s uploads. Googling around a bit I came across this page that just had a couple of useful tips & wanted to have a record of it somewhere - Essential Drupal Tips for Drupal 4.6.5.

Searching through some of the rest of the website I came across a great pic for Lords of the Rings fans - (more…)
